minimax aircraft

Minimax Aircraft - I bought this plane for 50% of the build stage. Many Minimax aircraft have been flying in Italy since the 1990s. I did a lot of modifications to the airplane: I added luggage to the wings, moved the fuel tanks, and installed an engine that had never been installed in a Minimax before: a Jabiru 2200. I also made new fairings around the engine, a new canopy system from three modules, and new wingtips. I also designed completely new controls for the ailerons and elevators.

It flies great and the climb is impressive! My plan is to put on floats already built from plywood and fiberglass.

Terry Edwards covers some of the less-discussed aspects of home building, from decision-making processes to the best sources of help when choosing a project manager (and deciding if you need one).

Team Mini-MAX is a large family of single-seat, mid-wing, strut-mounted aircraft available as a kit for hobbyist construction. The first Mini-MAX flight was made in 1984. The name indicates its original design objective: a minimum cost aircraft that requires minimum space, time and skill, but provides maximum enjoyment and performance.

The Mini-MAX family was originally manufactured by TEAM Incorporated in Bradyville, Tennessee. After the company went bankrupt as a result of the lawsuit, production moved to Ison Aircraft also in Bradyville, Tennessee, and next door to JDT Mini-MAX in Nappanee, Indiana. The company was named Team Mini-Max LLC in 2012 and is based in Niles, Michigan.

All Mini-MAX models are primarily made of wooden trusses with plywood wedges and covered with alloy aircraft fabric. The production time to complete the Mini-MAX varies depending on the model selected. Many models have cabs equipped with windshields. All versions have a short wingspan of only 7.6 m (25 ft), except the V-MAX and 1600R EROS, which have wingspans of 8.1 m (26.5 ft). Both the wing and the horizontal stabilizer are fixed: the wing is fixed to the landing gear, and the tail is fixed from the horizontal surface of the tail to the fin. All models have a conventional chassis, as an option with a chassis. Since the wing is tensioned against the main wheels and the main wheels are connected to a rigid axle, pneumatic tires provide the only suspension.

Initially, the aircraft had to meet the requirements of the US FAR 103 ultra-light vehicle category, including a maximum empty weight of 254 lb (115 kg) for that category. The original Mini-MAX ultralight models were fitted with a 28 hp (21 kW) Rotax 277 engine to achieve an acceptable curb weight. Today, the 1030F MAX 103 and 1100F Mini-MAX achieve an acceptable curb weight of FAR 103 when equipped with the 28 hp (21 kW) Hirth F-33 engine. Other models use heavier gins, placing them in the US Experimental - Amateur Built category.

The Mini-MAX was also developed in a high-wing version called the Hi-MAX. Both designs have a lot in common in terms of details and design concepts.
